Meet the Michigan \u2018troll\u2019 in charge<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All told, more than a dozen athletes with Michigan ties qualified for this year\u2019s Winter Games, with events in Milan and Cortina d\u2019Ampezzo running through Sunday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They competed in ice dancing, hockey, snowboarding, freestyle skiing, biathlon, bobsleigh and cross-country skiing, reflecting Michigan\u2019s strong pipeline of collegiate programs and training facilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>&#8216;Skategate 2.0<\/strong>&#8216;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Ann Arbor native Evan Bates and Madison Chock, who moved to Michigan from California as a teen, won gold in an ice dancing team event.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But the married couple also came up short in individual competition, winning a silver medal in a razor-thin finish that fans are calling \u201cskategate 2.0,\u201d a reference to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/audio\/play\/w3csvrkh\">a prior controversy<\/a> at the 2002 Winter Olympics.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Chock and Bates say their near-perfect skate felt like a win, even if silver left fans &#039;confused&#039;\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/adkVfj9eSrQ?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Bates and Chock finished 1.43 points behind Laurence Fournier Beaudry and Guillaume Cizeron of France, who won with what some consider a generous score by French judge Jezabel Dabouis.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The judge gave Beaudry and Cizeron a 137.45 and Chock and Bates a 129.74 for their final performances. It was the widest gap amongst the panel of judges and was the lowest score for the US pair.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The scores prompted outrage from US fans.
