Michigan offered $20 billion in <a href=\"https:\/\/bridgemi.com\/business-watch\/michigan-officials-defend-20b-sandisk-incentive-offer-scrutinized-by-legislators\/\">subsidies,<\/a> including $2 billion from an incentive program that lawmakers have since defunded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cDeveloping a large site without a company feels weird, because it&#8217;s never been done before like this in our community or in our state,\u201d said Rossmaessler, adding that it\u2019s not uncommon in other states.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The property is marketed for advanced manufacturing, including automotive, defense and life science uses. The state and local economic alliance also remain open to the semiconductor industry.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to information stemming from questions posed by online and phone-in participants:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>General Motors\u2019 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hagerty.com\/media\/automotive-history\/buick-city-once-an-automotive-metropolis-finds-new-life\/\">abandoned Buick City complex<\/a> is not an alternative site because it is about one-fourth the size of the megasite, too small for most big projects and under redevelopment, Rossmaessler said.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The alliance has regular meetings with state environmental regulators \u201cto ensure that we are following all the natural resource protection processes,\u201d Rossmaessler said in response to several environmental questions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Rossmaessler clarified for participants why clearing a 2-mile swath of residential property and farmland is necessary. Among the reasons: global industrial standards.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIn different parts of the world, \u2026 there are more operations on one site,\u201d he said. \u201cMachines are bigger. They need that green space and they need the buffering.
